What is Autonomi
Autonomi is a network that provides users with a distributed, decentralized, and encrypted layer of the internet, effectively a “Layer 0”. It is a secure, autonomous network that runs on everyday devices, offering self-encryption, quantum-safe security, and lifetime storage.
Autonomi combines the spare capacity of connected devices, anything from old consumer PCs to Raspberry Pis to leftover data center racks. This collection of storage space is used to create a globally accessible data-store that anyone can use.
Users can store data, communicate, access knowledge, run services, and build businesses without middlemen or gatekeepers. The network is built for autonomy, enabling participation regardless of geography, status, or wealth. It is designed for secure collaboration between people, machines, and the intersection of both — free from centralized control and surveillance.
Data is encrypted, de-duplicated, and replicated across devices on the Autonomi network. No personal data touches the internet, making Autonomi uniquely secure and private.
How Autonomi Works
When you upload private data to Autonomi:
- It is split into encrypted “chunks” using credentials only you know.
- These credentials never leave your machine.
- The chunks are duplicated and randomly distributed across the global network.
- Each group of chunks is monitored and managed by a close group of nodes dedicated to that data.
These nodes are independent, everyday devices that contribute their spare capacity to store encrypted chunks. Nodes constantly validate each other’s behavior and are rewarded for cooperation and uptime, while bad actors are quickly removed.
Even as devices go offline, the network self-heals by replicating data to new nodes. This ensures perpetual storage, accessible only by the owner, with a one-time upload fee. That fee guarantees the data is stored for the life of the network — no renewals, subscriptions, or ongoing charges.
Key Features
Autonomous
Autonomi isn’t just decentralized — it’s self-healing, self-governing, and permissionless. It turns global spare capacity into usable infrastructure native to the internet.
Infinite Scale
Built without blockchain constraints, Autonomi is a DLT that scales with usage. Early payments use an ERC20 token, but will transition to a native token as adoption grows.
Quantum-Secure Encryption
All data is encrypted before it leaves your device, even quantum computers can’t break it. Nothing sensitive ever hits the public internet.
Commodity Devices
Everybody can contribute. That includes using old laptops or underutilized servers. More devices mean greater decentralization and resiliency.
Real-Time Payment System
Users pay once to upload. Node hosts earn Autonomi Network Token ($ANT) instantly. Eventually, a native currency will replace $ANT.
The Autonomi Protocol
Overview
The Autonomi Protocol operates at the lowest layers of the internet (TCP/UDP), creating a peer-to-peer infrastructure for storing and accessing data. It removes the need for centralized servers or third-party authentication.
With this protocol:
- Users retain total control of their data and access credentials.
- Developers can build apps with simple APIs, securely reading/writing data without needing to route via middlemen.
- Hackers have no central targets to exploit.
The Tech Stack
Autonomi combines original innovations with proven peer-to-peer networking technologies. Its decentralized protocol stack is designed for reliability, privacy, and long-term usability. Developers can focus on building, while Autonomi handles scale, security, and distribution.
Summary
Autonomi is redefining how we think about the internet:
- A secure, decentralized global network.
- A new layer of infrastructure made from everyday devices.
- True data sovereignty with no ongoing costs or middlemen.
- A platform for global collaboration and autonomy, built for the people.
Whether you're storing personal data, running a service, or building the future — Autonomi gives you the tools, privacy, and freedom to do it.
